Forced labour in the National Socialist era – this is a topic which has been widely discussed over the past twenty years, primarily in connection with compensation payments. The debates were accompanied by detailed research on the history of forced labour in connection with National Socialism. The general understanding of the full extent of forced labour in the German Reich and the countries of Europe occupied by the Wehrmacht is nevertheless far from complete.
With support from the foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future”, the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Foundation is responding to this circumstance by putting together an international travelling exhibition on the topic, based on current international research as well as its own extensive scholarly investigations. It will be the first exhibition ever to take all aspects of the theme of “forced labour in the National Socialist era” into consideration and place them into the context of the development of German society between 1933 and 1945.
The exhibition will open in Berlin at the Jewish Museum in September 2010 and subsequently be shown worldwide. (Source)
