The ROSA ARCHIV (Pink Archive) started with the digitalization of the "Yearbooks of sexual intermediaries with special consideration of homosexuality" which Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld published between 1899-1923. Issue no. I and II from 1899/1900 have allready been digitalized and are available at the Rosa Archives.
During his around-the-world journey begun in 1930, Magnus Hirschfeld was saluted in America as "[t]he Einstein of Sex" and in India as "the modern Vatsayana of the West." Today, however, his life and work seem almost erased from cultural memory, yet he deserves recognition as a significant theorist of sexuality and the most prominent advocate of homosexual emancipation of his time (from the encyclopedia of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer culture).
