Civic Voices is a joint effort of two international civic education projects: Civics Mosaic and the International Democracy Memory Bank coordinated by the American Federation of Teachers Educational Foundation, headquartered in Washington DC and funded by The United States Department of Education.
The International Democracy Memory Bank engages teachers and students from around the world in developing a rich bank of oral histories from democratic activists. Teachers and students are recording the stories of activists in their communities who participated in movements for human rights and democracy. This collection of narratives will contain transcripts of every interview submitted to the Democracy Memory Bank, as well as excerpts from selected videos. They will be available at www.civicvoices.org.
Polish partner of the project is “NSZZ Solidarność” whose section of education will train 280 teachers from Poland. The trainings started on 19 August in Kielce for the group of 50 teachers from Southern Poland.
Apart from the bank of interviews various of instructional materials on democracy as well as lessons scenarios will be created.
